Yerler (Places)
Some points of interest:
- İstanbul: Former capital of the Ottoman Empire, home to the Aya Sophia, Topkapı Palace, Fatih Bridge (the Bridge between Europe & Asia), and millions of other amazing sites.
- Ankara: The capital of Turkey and where I will be spending the majority of the next four months.
- Cappadocia: Land of Fairy Chimneys and Painted Churches.
- Konya: Home of the Whirling Dervishes.
- Troy: (Actually, near Çanakkale) The site of the Trojan War.
- Ephesus: Home to one of the 7 World Wonders: The Temple of Artemis.
- Bodrum: Beach resort town and site of the Mausoleum of Mausolus.
- Mt. Nemrut: The location of an amazing Mesopotamian Temple, now in ruins.
- Mt. Ararat: The supposed landing of Noah's Ark.
- Sumela Monastery: Near Trabzon there is an abandoned Athenian Monastery, built against the sheer edge of a cliff.
